Secrets of the T-Rex and Member Show & Tell
Dr. David DeMar Jr. will join us for an update on the Hell Creek Project, the Tufts-Love T-Rex and we hope he will share some of his recent rare dinosaur finds as well. Joining him will be Michael Holland, Hell Creek Project Preparator on Secrets of the Tufts-Love T Rex - some of the cool features that were discovered during preparation of the specimen. This is a special and fun session on this fantastic find, which you can see in the Burke Paleontology gallery.
Dave is currently the Hell Creek Project Collections Manager and Lab Manager. His PhD was on the Late Cretaceous and Paleocene Lissamphibia and Squamata of Montana and the end-Cretaceous mass extinction. He then completed postdoctoral fellowships with the Hell Creek Project and later with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. He rejoined the Wilson Mantilla Lab in 2022 in his current position. Dave led the field excavation of the Tufts-Love T-Rex (several current and former NPA members were on that dig).
Michael is currently the Hell Creek Project Preparator working in our Burke lab. His background includes work as a Paleontology technician at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and Paleontology Artist in Residence at the Museum of the Rockies.
This month we will also feature member show and tell. Please bring fossils, photos and stories to share.
We also will need member input to finalize our field trip timings and choices. We are excited to get out into the field together!
