Meet Judith

Judith is the name of the ceratopsid dinosaur Spiclypeus shipporam. This new species was discovered in the Judith River formation of Montana and one of our own NPA members was on that dig! Judith hails from the late Cretaceous period and is known for a unique frill and evidence of some aggravating diseases. She is the holotype specimen of her species. The original bones reside in the Canadian Museum of Nature (see video) but a special cast of her was made and donated to NPA for our use in Educational Outreach. Casts such as this are usually behind the ropes in a museum but we get to take her to classrooms, events, rock shows and even wineries where people can get up close and personal.

Want to host Judith at your event? Imagine the selfies !

Please use the form below to get started. There is a charge of $200 for transportation of Judith to attend most events. This helps our organization to do this amazing outreach. The fee is waived for Title 1 schools and select other organizations.

What to expect? We can gear a presentation of Judith to age and audience type. Our volunteers will provide a short explanation of how and where Judith was discovered, what time period she comes from, what her unique features and attributes are, followed by question and answer period and access for close up picture taking. Judith is pretty large and we will work with you to ensure adequate space and access is available.

How to get involved: We need volunteers to tell Judith’s story and sometimes to transport her to locations. If you are a club member and wish to volunteer, please contact Vince Bruscas or send an email to info@northwestpaleo.org.
